Joseph Parker & Wardley Set for Winner-Takes-All Clash with Chance at Oleksandr Usyk on the Horizon

“This is the most important contest, at the moment, in the heavyweight class. These two boxers have stepped up when neither one needed to make this fight. Joe Parker is the WBO interim champion and they have previously mandated Usyk to fight him, but he was sidelined. Parker is eager to compete regardless.
“Wardley is also in a fantastic position and he could have just waited for his opportunity. He said ‘No.’ He chose to box – and with Parker because it provides him a shot to jump the queue.”
Parker's Viewpoint
Parker, set to be 34 in January, said: “This is do or die. I am not thinking about losing. I have respect for my rival and his achievements and his preparation for this contest. But I am on a higher plane and I am intending to prove it on Saturday.”
Wardley’s Outlook
Wardley turns 31 in December, and he said: “It is a massive night for the pair of us. It is undoubtedly the largest contest of my career and the most important fight ever. But each time I rise to the occasion I excel under pressure. Saturday will be no exception. The separation between where Joe is and what others believe about me has been a frequent topic throughout my career.
“He has vast experience for a considerable period, with a many bouts on his resume. Certainly not is he an aged fighter but he has been in the boxing world for a while and had some heavy fights. I too have faced intense battles and I realize they cause wear and tear. He has been in a significantly more of those fights than I have.”

But the lingering doubt persists that Parker should prove too experienced, and too skilled, for his opponent. He should win a hard-fought contest with the confidence that he is the prime candidate for Usyk – the undisputed best in the division by a comfortable distance.
