Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
